Historical Significance Investigation
Hinchliffe Stadium was constructed in 1932 as a municipal stadium for the City of Paterson. The stadium became a focal point for the Paterson community, hosting a variety of events including serving as a prominent venue for Negro League baseball throughout the 1930s and 1940s and served as a home field for the New York Black Yankees, the New York Cubans and the Newark Eagles. The building was in poor condition at final of nomination but the stadium is currently undergoing a major rehabilitation.
Coordinated completion of a Historical Significance Investigation, in collaboration with sub-consultants Paula S. Reed and Associates and Dr. Lawrence Hogan, African-American and Negro League baseball historian with the end result being the completion of a National Historic Landmark Nomination for the stadium. These investigations including establishing a historical record on Black professional and Negro League Baseball and placing this history in the context and importance of Hinchliffe Stadium as a naturally significant venue for Negro League baseball in the mid-20th century.
