Acorn Hall, constructed in 1853 for Dr. John Peter Schermerhorn and his family, and expanded upon by Augustus Crane, exemplifies grand Italianate style architecture. The house has been little changed at both the interior and exterior since the 1860s and reflects the property of a gentleman farmer in the late 19th century.
Connolly & Hickey prepared a Historic Preservation Plan for Acorn Hall, including the carriage house, which has guided a series of restoration campaigns at the exterior and will continue to guide the work at the Carriage House.
